Stoughton is a freshman dorm affiliated with Ivy Yard along with Apley Court, Hollis, Holworthy, Lionel, Mass Hall, Mower, and Straus. Its prime location boasts some of the best views of Harvard Yard, and it is conveniently located near Johnston Gate and just a short walk away from the Science Center and Annenberg, as well as Harvard Square shops like CVS and restaurants.
Housing & Amenities
Stoughton has two vertical entryways, Stoughton North (“StoNo”) and Stoughton South (“StoSo”), with each entryway consisting of a proctor and approximately 30 students. Room layout is identical to that of its neighbor Hollis, featuring spacious doubles with hardwood floors and faux fireplaces and common bathrooms.
StoNo houses the common room for Stoughton and includes a full-size kitchen and printer available for residents to use. Stoughton also has a laundry room in its basement, shared with residents of neighboring dorms, along with vending machines and a garbage room.
The current building was constructed in 1805, but the original Stoughton was built in 1700. Stoughton is named after its benefactor Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor William Stoughton.
Notable past residents include basketball star Jeremy Lin, TV personality Dr. Oz, and director of the Met in NYC Philippe de Montebello.
The Stoughton mascot is a stingray.
